Statement of Faith:

Christ Community Church of Geneseo

What We Believe

Bible: We believe the Bible to be the inspired and infallible Word of God. It is our supreme authority in all matters of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21; Romans 15:4)

Trinity: We believe in the triune Godhead as eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19; Romans 8: 16-17; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Galatians 4:4-6)

God The Father: We believe in God the Father, perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, and measureless in power. We rejoice that He concerns Himself mercifully in our affairs and hears and answers our prayers. (Leviticus 11:44; 1 Kings 8:27; Job 38-41; Psalm 139; Isaiah 40:6-7; 1 John 4: 8-10)

God The Son: We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, born of a virgin, and sinless in His life, who through His death on the cross bore the punishment for the sins of the world. We believe in His bodily resurrection, ascent into heaven, and future personal, visible return to judge the world according to His promise. (Romans 1:4 & 3:25-26; Matthew 1:18; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 7:25)

God The Holy Spirit: We believe in the Holy Spirit who was sent by Christ to convict the world of sin, regenerate the believer, produce in the believer’s life the fruits of the Spirit, equip Christians for serving God, and be the seal from God that guarantees our restored position with Him. (John 15:26; 16:8 & 13-15; 1 Corinthians 12:1-14; 1 John 2:26-27)

Salvation: We believe that all people are sinners both by nature and by choice. Those who by faith accept Christ’s sacrifice for their sins are forgiven for any and every sin by God’s grace and are adopted as beloved children of God, entering into a new and direct relationship with God. Those who accept Jesus will spend all eternity in His presence. Those who reject Jesus as Savior and Lord will be forever separated from God. (John 3:16; Romans 3:23-25; 5:8; 6:23; 10:9-13; 1 John 4: 9-10)

Church: We believe that the Church is made up of all those who confess Christ as Savior and Lord. It gathers for mutual encouragement and building up of its members and to grow in knowledge and understanding of God through the consistent preaching and teaching of the Word of God. The Church also must go forth into the whole world to proclaim the Gospel to the lost through word and action. (Matthew 28:19; Romans 10:9-15; 1 Corinthians 1:21; 1 Thessalonians 5:11-14; 2 Timothy 4:1-2)

Baptism: We believe in baptism by immersion as the Bible’s norm for those who have faith in Jesus Christ. It symbolizes the believer's faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior and the believer's death to sin and rebirth to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. (Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:1-11)

Communion: We believe that communion, when shared by believers, witnesses to the saving power of the gospel, demonstrates Christ’s continuing presence in His church, and looks forward to His victorious return. (1 Corinthians 11:23-26; Luke 22:14-20)

Participation: We believe that it is the duty and privilege of all believers, within our ability, to support the local church with our regular presence, financial support, and service. (2 Corinthians 8:9; Hebrews 10:25; 1 Peter 4:10)

Godliness: We believe that in Christ God’s people are a new creation by God’s grace and that through the Holy Spirit we are to renounce all forms of sin, striving to live a life of holiness and purity in accordance with the Bible’s standards. (Romans 1:18-28 & 8:28-30; Ephesians 4:17-24; Philippians 3:7-14)

Marriage: We believe that marriage is a sacred institution established by God to unite one man and one woman in a covenant commitment for a lifetime. (Matthew 19:4-6)

Value of Life: We believe that since humanity is created in God’s image, human life is of inestimable worth and significance in all its dimensions, from conception to the grave. (Genesis 1:27; Psalm 139:13-14)
